ABOUT ROBOTICON
ROBOTICON is the second concert in the JOLT cutting-edge music concert series for 2007. Melbourne based machine art musicians Ernie Althoff, James Hullick and Robin Fox will present their internationally acclaimed world leading music making machines. From 3pm on 24th July 2007 at Trades Hall's New Ballroom, audiences will be treated to a rare afternoon of ingenious artist-built machines that have been highly acclaimed internationally and nationally.
Machines that make sound were pioneered in Australia by the great eccentric genius of Australian music, Percy Grainger. Nearly 100 years later, Australian musicians are again demonstrating that striking streak of inventiveness and resourcefulness that has so characterized the best moments in the culture of our country.
The beautiful aspect of these sonic automata is that as well as creating rich sonic landscapes and music for a contemporary society, the machines are also stimulating visual and sculptural art works. You can listen with your eyes as well as your ears.
Ernie Althoff will present machines that have morphed from record players into finely crafted sound making sculptures. Robin Fox will perform with his ingenious sonic controlled laser machine. James Hullick will perform with his vibrating speaker and bell machines.
