TIEN PHAM (JOLT CREATIVES): ANIMATOR

Tien PhamI started off as somewhat of nerdy student, studying mathematics and science, along with some programming and IT. Since a young age, I was constantly exposed to a retail and interactive atmosphere, having grown up in a family business. With over ten years of that exposure, it shaped the basis of my curiosity in how the human mind works and perceives the environment around them.  Whilst I began in the field of Computer Science, my interests began to bubble towards user interactivity and digital media. So I took what technical experience I gained from that course and pushed it into the direction of 3d animation (and gradually 2d animation), bundled that up with my curiosity about the human mind, and it sparked a core interest for exploring the deeper connection between life and motion.  Tien has joined the JOLT Creatives for THE NIS

NATASHA ANDERSON: SOUND ARTIST & RECORDER PLAYER

Natasha Anderson is a Melbourne artist who variously uses contrabass recorder, electronics and mixed media to create works that foreground the musician as a framed and gendered bodily presence. Constantly and rapidly shifting between such opposing forces as digital and acoustic sound, abject and processed gestures, extremes of frequencies and visual and sonic moments – she creates for the audience multiple and conflicting points of focus. Ultimately the source of these sounds, images and gestures, whether electronic, instrumental or bodily, become tangled and confused.

Natasha has performed multimedia, improvised and classical contemporary music throughout Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Europe. Recent performances include Musique Action Festival, France [2007], Liquid Architecture and Now Now Festivals, Sydney [2007], Festival de Musiques Innovatrices, France, OFF Film Festival, Brisbane, Melbourne International Arts Festival, Alt.Music, Auckland [2006], the Pompidou Centre, Paris [2004], and What is Music, Melbourne [2004-2005]. Regular collaborators includeAnthony Pateras, Robin Fox, Amanda Stewart and Annette Krebs. Anderson has presented original compositions involving contra-bass recorder and electronics for JOLT in INTERACTACON & WIGGA.

JOHN DERRICK (DARK LUMINANCE PROJECT): VISUAL ARTIST

johnderrickcutoutsmallHaving a back ground in recontextualised social realist oil-based portraiture, John Derrick takes the tradition of portraiture and combines it with 3D digital projections. He has been proactively extending the role of more traditional figurative oil painting on canvas by harnessing the use of new technologies through the use of 3D gaming environments. Derrick is visual curator for JOLT's RMIT supported DARK LUMINANCE PROJECT which has shown in New York at the Pratt Institute NY, at Gallery Sakiko NY and at Shifted Gallery Melbourne (under the name WIGGA) (2008) and will be presented in a further iteration at MARS Gallery Melbourne in 2009. Derrick is a veteran of many group and solo shows and is an alumni of the VCA and the Pratt Institute in New York. Derrick is currently completing his PhD in the School of Creative media at RMIT University.
