ABOUT INTERACTACON
INTERACTACON is the fourth concert in the JOLT cutting-edge music concert series for 2007. Internationally acclaimed Melbourne-based interactive technology musicians Natasha Anderson, Robin Fox, BOLT and James Hullick will be joined by the musicians of the Amplified Elephant – a sonic art ensemble for musicians with and without an intellectual disability. Together they will present vibrant and visceral Australian and International premieres of compositions created specifically for interactive technology. From 3pm on 26th August 2007 at 45 Downstairs’ Theatre, audiences will be treated to a unique afternoon of world-leading state-of-the-art interactively generated sound by some of Australia’s premiere artists.
On return from her latest international tour, recorder player and improvising guru Natasha Anderson will premiere “Maculae”, a sumptuous work featuring the projection of filmed self-portraits that alter according to how Anderson plays the contrabass recorder (via a computer interface). James Hullick and the musicians of the BOLT Ensemble will premiere Hullick’s “SK-EYELIKE MIND”. This work features Hullick’s world-leading interactive real-time scores. These scores are music notation that is read from a computer screen. The notation changes in real time according to how the musicians play the music. Hullick has presented, and will continue to present, world firsts in the aesthetic application of new technologies for each of the JOLT 2007 concerts. Robin Fox will premiere “Separation Anxiety”, an abstract electro-acoustic work that is informed by Fox’s statement that: “the computer is programmed to fight back at the performer with behavioural tendencies and decision making paradigms of its own.” After their extremely successful performance in JOLT’s first concert, CRANKY ROBOTICS, The Amplified Elephants will premiere “Interactacon” (same title as the show). This work has been developed with James Hullick and features Hullick’s interactive robotic sound making-machines. The Amplified Elephants are an inter-abilities ensemble featuring artists with and without an intellectual disability.
