Aviva Endean

Aviva Endean is an artist dedicated to fostering a deep engagement with sound and music, with the hope that attentive listening can connect people with each other and their environment. Trained as a clarinet player, she works as a composer, improviser, performance-maker and interdisciplinary collaborator on her own projects as well as with companies such as the Australian Art Orchestra, Chunky Move, Punctum and Chamber Made. Her debut solo album ‘cinder : ember : ashes’ featuring improvisations and original compositions for solo wind instruments, was released on Norwegian label SOFA (2018) to critical acclaim, with reviews highlighting her innovation and virtuosity, and describing the work as ‘captivating, sophisticated, stunning, miraculous’ and ‘trance-inducing’. Her upcoming album ‘Moths & Stars’ (due to be released on Room40 later this year) takes her work into an electro-acoustic world, interweaving her explorative instrumental sound with gleaned and collaged sound sources and live effects processing.
