NATALIE WALTERS - JELLY FISH

Natalie Walters is an ambient music artist through the NDIS sector. Works presented in her 30 minute set feature on Walters' upcoming debut album 'Jelly Fish'. Walters began this work during COVID lockdowns in Melbourne: imagining deep sea experiences as a blissful transportation from the strains of 2021.

The work has evolved out of ideas that appear in The Amplified Elephants' landmark album 'Deep Creatures' on Heavy Machinery Records. Walters is a leading member of The Amplified Elephants – a sound art ensemble from the NDIS system.

MICROFICHE - MINIMALIST ENSEMBLE

Sydney-based, six-piece improviser–composer collective Microfiche tie improvisation and composition into serpentine knots and unravel them live in unexpected and cathartic ways.

Informed by free jazz approaches, modern compositional techniques (initially inspired by Cage and Feldman), and more recently electronics, Microfiche have emerged as one of Australia's most fresh and creative forces in our national improvised music landscape.

Since forming as a student jazz ensemble at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2015, Microfiche's recent artistic endeavours have included a 2019 European tour, including a performance at Copenhagen Jazz Festival; the release of their second studio album 'Everything and Other Infinities' on Portuguese label Creative Sources Rec in 2021; a month-long performance residency with very special guests at 107, Redfern; a five-star performance at Phoenix Central's esteemed jazz festival STRATA; and an ongoing collaboration of a multidisciplinary theatre work with Living Room Theatre. In July 2022 they hit the road to perform around Australia's East Coast.

★★★★★ - “The recording may well become a reference for the future up and coming generations of this country’s free jazz to utilise. It’s an ensemble to be admired and eagerly consumed.” - Dingo Jazz Journal

★★★★★ - “The whole ensemble come together to create a lush, slightly tense sonic landscape that could be the closing credits to a film...the overall effect is spellbinding" - High Robertson, Limelight Magazine

★★★★ - “This music comes from highly original minds, with all nine pieces containing compulsive narratives and unique sound worlds…” - John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald
